Students “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT”! Good reading and conversation we had today. Making small changes to your food plan will add up to huge health benefits. It is awesome to see so many young people starting to take charge of their health!
Good conversations today about GMO foods and glyphosate. Try to eat as many organic foods as possible but also try to eat freshly prepared whole foods as well. You can eat cereals and packaged foods as I want you to enjoy your life but always in moderation and always know what you are putting in your body. I realize at your age you don’t have the ability to always buy the foods you want but at least you are learning what to do as you get older.
Below are stores I recommend you checkout!
Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Mother’s Market, farmers markets, or any store that has locally grown foods or organic foods. You can also grow your own food. That would be a fun project to take on!
As I have told you guys a million times “MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PUTTING IN YOUR BODY.” In my opinion, fast food is the cheapest, low quality food you can buy. These restaurants add all kinds of ingredients that should never enter your body. Read the article and see what these ingredients are doing to you slowly over time.
I am not saying to never eat fast food as on occasion I do as well but you guys eat this junk all of the time. Remember you are growing and your body is made out of what you eat. Restaurants are starting to wake-up a bit as consumers(you) are starting to demand cleaner, fresher foods that are not loaded with additives and preservatives and that are GMO free.
Victory: Taco Bell & Pizza Hut to Remove Artificial Ingredients from Food
Good afternoon people. I am trying out a new program today where I can record my voice over a power point presentation. Below is the quiz you took a couple months ago. I chose a couple of your answers to read so click on the link below. Once the link opens click on the microphone icon in the right corner to hear the audio. I am still trying to figure out how this works so bear with me.
Thanks for working hard today students. Running the track is not always that fun but your body will thank you for it as time goes on. Think about the proper hydration facts we spoke about today. You want to put as many good things in your body as possible. Below is a picture of some tasty goat’s milk ice cream I ate today. See you all tomorrow.
Heavy ropes were awesome today. The heavy ropes are a full body workout that will increase core strength and power, increase cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and hand strength.
We will go over the health benefits of dairy next week. Ice cream can be a health food if you use it right. Stay tuned until next Wednesday.
It’s hard to see in the photo but Strauss Farms vanilla ice cream only has 5 ingredients. Not 5,000 ingredients like the ice cream you eat. Look at the ice cream in your freezer right now. I bet it has guar gum and carragennan in it which can cuase inflammation in your body and could be the reason why you are farty, gassy, bloatey when you eat it. Strauss farms ice cream IS NORMAL ICE CREAM. It tastes amazing. A good snack to have is a couple spoon fulls of organic ice cream with organic fruit. That way you get good fats, proteins, carbs, and sugars all together. Another brand I recommend is Haggen Dazs 5 ice cream. The 5 means there is only 5 ingredients in the ice cream. You can by Strauss Farms ice cream at Whole Foods Market and Mother’s Market and you can buy Haggen Dazs ice cream at almost any store. I also like Laloo’s Goat Milk Ice cream but it does have some additives but is still a good option.
All classes did a pretty good job today on the quiz. One class struggled a bit but overall pretty good. Remember that “exercise” is only one piece of the health puzzle. The quiz covered different topics in the world of health and nutrition. I want you to learn this info. Make sure to go back and read prior posts and watch the videos so you can refresh your memory. I want you to eat right, sleep right, hydrate right, have stable mental/emotional health and so on. More info to come in the future. KEEP LISTENING. We will go over the anwsers in the next week. This quiz will not count as part of your grade.
REMINDER. I am not a big fan of drinking Coke or any kind of soda. But, if you are going to drink soda why not drink a “cleaner” product. Do the negatives outweigh the positives? That could be the case.
Read the 7 Side Effects of Soda above. Make a decision for yourself. It’s not a big deal to have a soda every once in a while. The problem is at your age you have MANY sodas in a day or in a week. There are some health benefits to soda that you can read below.
The biggest difference between Mexican Coke and American Coke is one has cane sugar and one has high fructose corn syrup.
Water, high-fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.
Carbonated water, sugar, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.
1-The sugar in Mexican Coke is a fast way to get energy to your cells as it is easily digested. Remember to drink Coke with a fat(coconut oil, dairy, meat) and a protein(dairy, meat, bone broth, gelatin) to balance out your blood sugar. Otherwise your blood sugar will go high, then crash and you will not feel to good. The calorie amount of high fructose corn syrup can sometimes be 4-5 times higher then what is listed on the label. So if the label says carbohydrates 100 calories it could really be 500 calories.
2-The carbonation will increase carbon dioxide levels which will bring oxygen to our tissues, increase energy production, decrease inflammation, and reduce swelling.
3-The caffeine in Coke will increase blood volume to the brain, protect the liver, provide magnesium and vitamin B1, stop the production of free radicals which damage our cells.
Good Saturday morning to you students, parents, and world! I just got done with a nice quick workout of 4 sets consisting of push-ups(all the way down then up half way, back down, then up all the way), TRX curls, and some rectus abdominis work. I like to train in the morning as that is when I feel my best. Below is what I ate yesterday to keep my blood sugar balanced, energy stable, cells blasted with nutrition, and my mind right. It’s all about eating whole foods cooked fresh everyday.
Lamb shanks, coconut oil, pickling salt, OJ, nectarine, cantaloupe, watermelon, sweet potato, white fish, carrot, pastured eggs, macaroons, bone broth, and sparkling natural mineral water.
Enjoy some rest then get off your butts and get outside and have some fun with your family and friends. Enjoy your day. I will teach you more about nutrition as the year goes on. On Wednesday we will talk about sleep.
P.S.- let me know what you guys have been eating this weekend.
