Physical Education Policies And Sports Guidelines

Dear Students and Parents,

As we strive to encourage maximum participation in the daily physical education class, we commit to safety guidelines. The outline of expected learning outcomes is detailed for you to read and discuss together. The safety measures in place are necessary to ensure a positive and encouraging experience.

Outside Backpack Hooks

*You can put your backpacks in your assigned outside locker before you come to class.

*You are never allowed to touch another persons backpack in anyway. That means do not open their zippers, pull on their backpacks. Also, stealing and theft will be severely punished.

1- Hooks are first come first serve.

2- Please make sure to securely place your backpack on a hook so it does not fall on someone below you.Throwing backpacks or horseplay will not be tolerated.

3- Your backpack will be left unattended during class so do not put anything valuable (cell phones, iPods, wallet, money) in your backpack.

4- When class is over and you have dressed out back into your school clothes, then come outside and grab your backpack and line up in between the 2 red lines.

5- Backpacks, food, and drink are not allowed in the locker room.

6- Only your school clothes and anything valuable may be locked up inside your locker in the locker room. At the end of class ALL of your things must be taken out so the next class will be able to use the locker. Do not leave anything behind.

Locker Room Rules

*At the beginning of the day (first period), after snack, after lunch, or anytime the locker room door is closed, students must line up behind the red line in single file order.

*Once all students are lined up in single file order they will, one at a time put their backpacks on the outside backpack hooks before they go into the locker room to get dressed.

*If the locker room door is open, hang your backpack on a hook and come into the locker room and get dressed.

1- Enter the locker room before the tardy bell rings, get dressed promptly and report to your number or assigned area.

2- Make sure to enter and exit through the appropriate door. Do not block or crowd the entry door and exit door. No pushing or moshing while entering/exiting the locker room.

3- Lockers are first come first serve. Make sure to put your clothes and valuables in your locker and lock it. You may not keep any of your personal items on the ground at anytime. Do not bring anything valuable to school that could be stolen. The PE staff is not responsible for any stolen items. When class is over, take all of your belongings out of your locker and take them with you. You may not leave any of your things in a PE locker overnight.

4- Students may not wear PE clothes that belong to others. No sharing. You may not wear other students PE clothes from the lost and found. PE clothes may be purchased in the front office before or after school or you can bring a separate pair of PE clothes from home. Your first and last name must be written in the white rectangular area of your shirt and shorts.

5- You may not dress in the shower area, bathroom stall, or in the hallways of the entrance and exit of the locker room.

6- No horseplay or loud noise in the locker room (such as running, throwing things, chasing each other, yelling, screaming, loud whistling, slamming lockers, clapping etc.) Keep your hands to yourself and off other students’ belongings.

7- Keep your locker room clean. Eating or drinking in the locker room is not allowed. Once you dress you may take a snack and drink out to the trash can on the blacktop to quickly have a snack before class starts. Make sure to throw your trash away. You may bring your own water to class.

8- Keep your bathroom area clean, including turning off the water in the sink when finished and throwing away all trash. Flush the toilet and urinal after each use.

9- At the end of the period, after dressing report to the area behind the red line to wait patiently for the bell to ring. Girls will line up behind the red line next to the girls’ locker room and boys will line up behind the red line next to the boys’ locker room. You are not allowed to go to your school locker after class unless you get a teachers permission.

Outside/Blacktop/Grass Rules

1- You must be sitting on your assigned number 5 minutes after the tardy bell rings, otherwise you will be considered tardy. Wait for directions from your teacher.

2- HORSEPLAY and PUTDOWNS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Students will respect each other and keep hands and feet to themselves. Be courteous to other students and teachers. During any activity there will be no putdowns, name calling or arguments. Use of foul language will not be tolerated. Play fair and display good sportsmanship.

3- Leave all equipment in the cart and do not touch anything. Wait until teacher directs which items are to be taken from the cart. Students will only use equipment with teacher permission.

4- Students will not hang on basketball rims or pull/jump, sit on the volleyball nets.

5- During the period, students will stay in assigned PE class area.

6- Wait for your teacher to stop activity and dismiss you to the locker room. PLACE, do not throw, all equipment where the teacher has directed you immediately.

7- At the end of the period, after dressing report to the area behind the red line to wait patiently for the bell to ring. Girls will line up behind the red line next to the girls’ locker room and boys will line up behind the red line next to the boys’ locker room. You are not allowed to go to your school locker after class unless you get a teachers permission.

Soccer

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching soccer equipment.
No slide tackling, no tripping, no high kicking, no shoulder bumping, no pushing.
Be careful when kicking the ball in a crowd of players. Do not kick someone’s shin.
You may bring your own shin guards and no soccer cleats are allowed.

Flag Football

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching flag football equipment.
No tackling, pushing, tripping, or holding.
Do not pull down someone’s short s when pulling their flag.
During class or at the end of class when we bring in all of the equipment you may not throw the football into the cart or into a crowd of people. You must walk the ball in and put the ball in the cart calmly.

Team Handball

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching team handball equipment.
If the nets are up do not touch the net, jump over the net, go under the net, walk over the net, hang on the net, sit on the net or touch the net in any way.
No shoulder bumping, touching or fouling.
No throwing the ball at opposing players.

Pickleball

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching pickleball equipment.
Do not touch the Pickle ball Racquets until your teacher gives you permission to do so.
Do not throw the Racquet at any time, do not strike objects with the racquet (the ground/poles) , and do not clap racquets with another player.
Absolutely no touching of the net unless you receive permission to do so. No removing any pickle ball poles without the supervision of a teacher.
Do not jump the net or attempt to go under the net.

Softball

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching softball equipment.
There will be no players permitted to stand directly behind the batter. The catcher must play behind the backstop since we do not have catcher’s gear. After the batter swing the catcher can come around the backstop to make plays.
Do not touch the softball equipment unless you are given instruction to do so by the teacher.
Gloves are optional due to the soft ball we use, but you may use a glove if you choose to do so.
The pitcher must be aware and quick to respond do to the nature of the position to guard against line drives in their direction.
No throwing the bat.
Fielders cannot block the path of the runner.
There is no sliding allowed.
There is no throwing the ball at opposing players.

Volleyball

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching volleyball equipment.
No hanging on the volleyball net.
No removing the volleyball poles without a teachers supervision.
Stay out of the Volleyball equipment until a teacher gives you permission.

Dance

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching dance equipment.
Wear appropriate foot wear for PE.
Walk quietly to the MPR and do not run when inside the MPR.
Listen to instructions and practice choreography when directed by your teacher.
Be aware of your surroundings and perform with care.

Tumbling

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching tumbling equipment.
Follow all safety advice given during instruction.
Always use the mats for tumbling, do not ‘play’ on the mats.
Always use spotters.
Listen to instructions and practice maneuvers when directed by your teacher.
Be patient and wait for your turn, do not perform maneuvers if someone is already using the mat.

Cricket

Wear appropriate foot wear for PE.
Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching cricket equipment.
When batting, ensure you are holding the bat with the correct grip. Do not ‘throw’ the bat.
When running, stay to the right of your batting partner.
When fielding by the wickets, remain a safe distance from the batter.

AFL

Wear appropriate foot wear for PE.
Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching AFL equipment.
Players cannot kick if they are being covered.
Players can not block a kick.
When contesting a ‘mark’ do not deliberately contact another player.
No tripping or tackling is allowed.

Basketball

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching the basketball equipment.
Do not hang on the basketball net or rim.
Do not climb up the basketball pole.

Ultimate Frisbee

Wait for instructions from your teacher before touching ultimate frisbee equipment.
Do not throw the frisbee at opposing players.
During class or at the end of class when we bring in all of the equipment you may not throw the frisbee into the cart or into a crowd of people. You must walk the frisbee in and put it in the cart calmly.
